What to know about tyres

The questions we get asked most on the phone. Short, accurate and only as long as it needs to be.

When should you switch to winter tyres? The obligation starts on 15 November, but the real measure is temperature, not the calendar.

How deep should the tread be?The legal limit is 1.6 mm. By the time a tyre reaches it, it stopped being safe a while ago.

What to do if a tyre blows on the roadWhat you do in the first three seconds decides the outcome: do not brake.

How to read a tyre sizeThat code on the sidewall is the only thing that tells you which tyre fits your car.

How often should tyres be replaced?Even with plenty of tread left, a tyre ages. The measure is the date, not the mileage.

When do wheels need balancing?A vibration that starts at a certain speed and then fades is almost always balance.
