Seasonal changeover

Changing seasons should not mean hauling two sets of tyres around. The changeover happens where you are, and the set that comes off goes back to you.

What decides a winter tyre is temperature, not snow. The rubber compound of a summer tyre hardens below roughly 7 degrees and braking distances grow even on dry tarmac; a winter tyre is built to stay flexible at that temperature. In Edirne, once autumn mornings start dropping below that threshold, it is time. During the changeover we measure the tread depth of every tyre: a winter tyre below 4 millimetres has lost much of its winter performance, and waiting for the legal limit of 1.6 millimetres is the wrong call. The set that comes off is labelled with the wheel position it came from, so next season it can go back on in the same order or be rotated deliberately.

  • Temperature decides, not snow — the threshold is around 7 °C
  • Tread depth measured at changeover; 4 mm is the critical line for winter tyres
  • The set removed is labelled by wheel position and handed back
  • Winter tyres are a legal requirement for commercial vehicles in the winter months

Common questions

When should I switch to winter tyres?

Watch the thermometer rather than the calendar: when daytime temperatures sit reliably below 7 degrees. In Edirne that usually falls in November.

Do you store the tyres you take off?

No, the set goes back to you. We hand it over labelled; keeping it somewhere cool, dry and out of sunlight is enough.

Are all-season tyres good enough?

Through an Edirne winter they serve most cars, but they do not replace winter tyres on real snow and ice. If you use roads that see regular snowfall, winter tyres are the right choice.

Are you there right now?

Call, tell us where you are, and we set off.
